GPT Image vs. Midjourney: Which Model Fits Your Style?

One follows instructions to the letter, the other dreams in atmosphere. How to pick the right engine for posters, portraits, and product shots.
Ask the same prompt of two flagship models and you get two different philosophies of image-making. GPT Image behaves like a meticulous illustrator: text renders cleanly, compositions follow instructions, edits stay surgical. Midjourney behaves like a cinematographer: mood first, accuracy second.
Neither is better in the abstract. The right choice depends on what the image needs to do.
When precision wins
Posters with headlines, product shots with readable labels, comics with consistent panels — anything where words or layout must survive the render belongs on the instruction-following side. If your prompt contains typography, that decides the model for you.
The trade-off is atmosphere. Literal models can feel staged, so push lighting and film language harder to recover the soul.
When atmosphere wins
Editorial portraits, fantasy scenes, fashion stories — work where feeling carries the image — thrive on models that interpret rather than obey. Write looser prompts here: moods, references, eras, textures.
Our rule of thumb on Lumia: brief the literal model like a designer, and brief the dreamy model like a poet. Match the language to the listener.
